Pretty rubbish really. They've all dieted down to an extreme condition and lost so much muscle they look ill.

I have to agree with Simon here......I just get sick and tired of such images being put up for discussion and its like "what am I looking at?"...yet you get people saying "well done mate!"..hell it should be "why the feck did you compete?" go back to the grind add a good 10+ of lean mass then do that!...

sorry if that offends anyone.....

and obv not aimed at you Rab for pointing this out..

Do you BB types think there will be a backlash against the Ronnie Colemans and Dorian Yates' and BB will go to the other extreme where its basically whoever gets the lower bf% wins?

I agree here too... I guess some of these guys may develop into something special but I doubt it. I know everyone has to start somewhere and build up but if I were of mind to compete, I'd wait until I was much bigger and better than that before having a go or expecting any praise... and if I couldn't get bigger then I wouldn't do it!

The kind of 'backlash' I'd like to see is a return to the aesthetics of the early days... less mass, perhaps even slightly higher healthier bodyfat levels but awesome proportions and graceful posing - the physique of Nubret with the posing of Ed Corney...

They really do look shit. Good old Simon bringing up martinm. GRRRRRRR! You got there before me!

Bob Paris a great poser and aesthetics were great. He still maintains he was snubbed by the weiders when he became open about his sexuality.

Yeah Bob Paris... I remember him. Very graceful. I liked Mohammed Makkaway too.

Looking at the pics, it puts me off the idea of competing in the U23s. i wouldnt be out of place on the stage i dont think, but it just looks shit and rediculous.

heres the main page that gives all the pics from the brits 07. Looking at the "novice" or first timer class, the standard aint that great either, but the guy that wone has a nice shape to him. when i seen him in glasgow, he was allot bigger!

I reckon dropping a few % of BF would get me looking awesome against any of those. Not as ripped maybe but asthetically infinately better.

See I don't like the vast majority of BB contest pics... everyone looks horrible with their uneven fake tan and in most of the posing shots they have a facial expression like they are really constipated :x...... :o... :D

They look pretty good for naturals.

Why don't you try compete then Alex? To be fair I think you would do ok in both a powerlifting and bodybuilding competition, do you not have any interest in the competitive side of things?

I think the winner of the novices looks good

Anyone know what age Masters starts at ? Think Simon and I could kick some skinny ass

I should probably put my money where my mouth is but thats not why I train, it's purely for the fun of it.

At this time of my life I don't have the time to give enough dedication to that extreme of dieting and rest needed to compete. And even if I did, I'd be playing Rugby instead :)

Not to take anything away from these guys in terms of the commitment to lose that much BF but I would echo the sentiments of others in that from a competition perspective is there much point? Sure, you've got to start somewhere but if were something I would choose to do I'd rather wait to put on more mass first rather than take the TOm and Martin M attitude to competing.

I don't think there's anything paticularly wrong with getting some contest experience if you are in a position where you don't look out of place.

Yes, everyone would love to take their time then show up and win their first contest, but you have to remember that if they get their pre-contest diet wrong and posing routine wrong, this combined with nerves could cost you a placing even if your physique is worthy.
