Big Si's getting effing huge journal!

Postby simon m on Fri Jan 25, 2008 8:38 pm

Introduction

I have decided not to post in my MP journal anymore. So this is the place to see whether an old hasbeen can progress!

For those who don't know, I've not been training for the past two weeks as I have a chest infection. In fact, I've still got it and have to go back to the docs on Monday.

Enough of the preamble, onto the session!

Sunday 20 January 2008

Chest, Back & Arms

Chest

Dumbell Bench Press

30 x 8, 36 x 8, 36 x 8, 36 x 8, 36 x 6

Incline Smith Press

60 x 8, 80 x 6, 60 x 10 + 6 rest/pause

Back

Reverse Grip Pulldowns

80 x 8, 100 x 8, 120 x 8, 120 x 8

Machine Rows

100 x 8, 120 x 5 + 2 rest/pause, 120 x 4 + 2 rest/pause

Arms

Rope Triceps/Biceps Superset (Gay Simons as they were known!)

35 x 10, 40 x 10, 45 x 10

Triceps Press Down - Jay Cutler Style

80 x 10, 90 x 10, 100 x 8

Comment

I dropped the weight down quite a bit for chest as I'm having trouble breathing, so I concentrated on form and kept the cadence slow and really contracted the pecs.

One further point to make, I have had no supplements this year excepting, protein shake, pre and post and desicated liver tablets daily.

Considering my poor health, I am happy with this.

Re: Simon's quest for buffness!

Since this post, my health has deteriorated and I am on much strong drugs which means that I won't be training for a week or two.

Basically, I had an adverse reaction to the drugs and have a Kidney Infection on top of the Chest Infection. I have undergone scans at hospital and am now waiting for the blood and urine test results as I have been bleeding whilst urinating.

I don't think that there's any permanent damage (I don't look yellow), but it's very tiring to say the least. I had a day off work, which for those of you who know me, is almost unheard of.

When I get back in training my major goal is to get 5 reps of 120KG on Smith Shoulder Press and 3 sets of 8 with 44's on dumbbell bench press.

Will update on my health as and when I know.

If you have a kidney infection you must take it easy! If you overstretch yourself it can become a recurring problem, stress can also play a part in it reoccuring. So take it easy and get everyone else to do everything for you.

I have never felt weaker and this proves how ill I have been as I just could summon any energy. I haven't take any supplements etc., either as I didn't want to stress my kidneys, so February will be a long and slow recovery to fitness.

Come on March!

Still good though which shows how much your base strength has gained overall since the autumn.

Also a good opportunity to work on any tricky areas, form, etc.

This month may not be so good for me either as I'll be commuting to Fulham and hitting the gym pretty late in the evenings. I may have to change gyms as I will have to drive past my place and into Woking which will be a nightmare for traffic at that time. There's a David LLoyd 2 mins drive away from me but I'm not so happy at paying their prices but would save me so much time.

Actually I was thinking of perhaps joining as it would virtually be on my way home and I'll miss the traffic coming back.

What time do you usually make the gym?

Good Idea, we're hoping to team up with Rogue as well one day as well.

Once I'm feeling better, we should try to do this.

Great to see you're feeling well enough to train again Simon. You're bound to feel weak for a while after an illness like that, but the strength will come back. Don't push yourself too hard mate.

Richard

If I'm honest, the only reason I trained today was because I didn't want to which worried me. If I had not gone down to the gym today, I could have got lazy which worried me. The though of vegging was very attractive.

It's so easy to quit.

I don't think there's any chance of you quitting Simon, we wont let you :). Just don't try to do too much, an illness like that is going to take a lot out of you.

Wednesday 6 February 2008 - Legs and Shoulders

Legs

Seated Leg Press

100kg x 15, 120 x 15, 140 x 10, 160 x 10, 180 x 7

Leg Extensions

70 x 8, 80 x 8, 90 x 8, 100 x 6

Leg Curls

50 x 8, 70 x 8, 80 x 3

Shoulders

Seated Smith Press

bar x 20, 60 x 8, 80 x 5 + 3 Rest/Pause, 60 x 10

Cable Side Laterals

10kg x 8, 15 x 8, 17.5 x 8, 20 x 6

Comment

Still nowhere near 100%. The leg curls were a real killer and my shoulder strength is way down on presses, but help up okay on the side laterals.

I think that in a couple of weeks, I'll be closer to where I was before illness.
