BF% Diet type and appetite

Postby Coop_de_Ville on Sat Jan 29, 2011 5:16 pm

Since I have been on a calorie restricted regime (anabolic style diet) for around 2 months now I have dropped a decent amount of weight and I am now sitting quite happily at 95.5kg (creatine loaded too, so without perhaps 94ish).

However since I have dropped to around 10% BF I have found it increasingly difficult to keep to the 1 per week refeed meal and when I do I just can't control my eating. I find I am even eating things I never really like to eat i.e biscuits, so I know it isn't a craving for taste. I feel mid week that I my appetite is starting to increase and I can't feel full even on meals that were fine for me 2 weeks ago.

Anyway what I am getting at, is this normal for the lower % BF? Should i bring in a mid week refeed (i.e oats and brown rice) in order to keep thyroid active and prevent the body going into starvation mode? And also would this mid week refeed prevent the uncontrollable eating I have found the last two weeks refeed day?

Sorry for the rambling post but I hope people get the general jist!

If anything carbs will keep your thyroid going and increase appetite. On the other hand, increase carbs/cals and you can keep your glyco higher and control leptin. There's nothing to lose from a mid week carb-up. do it.

Just an edit, since my post and biscuit binge I have no cravings for anything sweet at all. Shows me that the craving wasn't psychological i.e Ooooh I would love a few biscuits lol. The key point is I never ever eat biscuits, they are just not my kind of thing. lol

Thi is normal mate. I get insane cravings for cereal...honestly...any sh!t cereal like cardboard fruit n fibre, plain unsweetened swiss muesli, honey nut corn flakes. I dont ever eat cereal in peace times :lol

I think your body knows to an extent what it wants and de,ands it of you after a point.

Your metabolism is probably flying along right now and maybe some smaller refeed/cheats will o you good, rather than that build up of appetite and blowing out on a saturday.

Id personally just have the packet of biscuits mid wee post workout...or do what i do and ave things like turkish delights and haribo for pwo sugars. often even a crunchie

I'm also the same and find a high cocoa dark chocolate helps me out for any sweet tooth cravings.

I've also taken to swapping out pasta in my post work meal for porridge with a little honey and cinnamon which has also help curb some cravings plus oats are nice and cheap and a better carb source. My advice is get on the oats if you get carb cravings.

I'm lucky that excess appetite is something I never really get, with my only appetite issue being that I find it hard sometimes to even eat to maintenance... but on the flip side I find that high fat or protein intake compared to carbs very appetite restricting. This is one of the main reasons why I avoid such diets personally because for me it's not what i need - but in your case though replacing a few g's carbs with protein or fats my be a good solution when cravings kick in.
