Beach Sprints

Postby upright on Thu May 08, 2008 6:53 am

Like the look of what Rab's doing and rather than do cardio indoors whilst on holiday I fancy doing beach sprints. I read about doing these a few years back in Men's health I think. How's the best way of going about this considering the beach is unlikely to be marked out and I'm a terrible judge of distance... Was thinking something like a timed sprint, an appropriate cool down pace and then a rest and repeat.

When they finally stop fcuking around at crewe park, I can do sprints there as it's marked out pretty well for walking/jogging.

Any thoughts on Beach sprints - for the record, I'm assuming I'll be bare foot.

on the sand 50yrds will kill you! lol

I'd do 25-35yrds to start with at least. Sand running, let alone sand sprinting, is hard. Will be good though

did these years ago whilst on hols in some shitty all inclusive in the caribbean

as health says these are hard as! be careful where you do them also, for ease i used to do them on the shoreline and that wet sand is an absolute killer barefoot- great calf workoout though, but i'd dare say the impact cannot be anything but bad for you!

also, check out the running area to remove any glass/shells/nasties that might cut you up!

Cheers guys - sound like it should be fun but best first thing before the baellaric sun heats up too much. 25-30 yards sounds good for a start. I'll probably just use Rab's protocol - seems to kill him so I'll be good with that until I get into it.

I'll keep my eye out for broken glass but I'm hoping the resosrt'll be a bit better than scarborough...
