lol

There's a local made carrot cake in my freezer with my name all over it. Fecking lovely it is.

I very rarely actually want "treats" any more. I dunno, I just feel like I need it.

However, last night I did have chips, veggie burger and loads of tommy K

If the stomach has to match sodium bicarb with HCL molecule-for-molecule, shouldn't necking a load of supplementary bicarb leave you doubled over with acid indigestion, and lead to stomach ulcers etc in the long run?

health4ni wrote:taking sodium bicarb will not mean the body then produces HCl. The body produces HCl in it's production of sodium bicarb. But simply taking/drinking sodium bicarb won't make the stomach produce loads more HCl.

That link explains the Heidelberg test, which is the standard test for hypochlorhydria; as you'll see the patient ingests bicarb and the time for the stomach to regain neutrality is then charted.

By that rationale, then taking sodium bicarb to stimulate the release of more HCl before ingesting a meal (esp one that you believe requires HCl for digestion) would be a good thing right?

I've kept out of this thread for the main.

I've dubious about Young but then I have a healthy dose of scepticism for anyone making claims about something that they also have a commercial interest in.

I notice you say cancers thrive in an acidic environment a quick google brings up a lot alkaline and natural health websites that say the same thing, but I can't find anything related to actual scientific studies.

As for whether or not Young is being blocked by pharmaceuticals and other scientists not accepting his research. One of the main points is that protocols should be meticulous, under controlled conditions and replicable. If a study is performed in a way that these 3 criteria are not followed then research will not be accepted by the wider scientific community.

pH. Unfortunately the idea of acid vs alkaline is not quite so simple as it initially appears. There are various factors that influence pH and it's not a case of adding something more alkaline to shift the balance. The whole alkalinity system is not linear. I admit human biology is not my area of expertise, but here's what happens in the oceans to show how everything interlinks.

I agree the idea behind the alkaline lifestyle is basically a premise of healthy eating which a lot of people fail to do but I caution against extreme adherence to one thing, but respect that is your belief.

Id agree with the whole "surpressed" angle now. With the age of internet and information flow it is EXTREMELY difficult to surpress this now - and companies recognise this.

In terms of the cancer or alkaline - I do recall a study last year which seemed to suggest that cancer cells were killed/reversed in a strong alkaline environment? Try google scholar [if you havent already] But leaving Alkaline aside - Id much rather explore sterile Grape Seed / Pomegranet extract and injecting that into cancer cells. that has been shown to kill them in lab tests. But it seems it hasnt been taken further.......

Nice post above GymBunny - good points on the complexity of acid-base interactions within a system and also on the criteria required to make something scientifically viable.

No, it would be a bad thing. The Heidelberg was my way of showing that the stomach will regain homeostasis by producing HCl to balance out the bicarb that you've introduced. If you already need to produce/supplement X amount of HCl to digest a meal, and beforehand you take bicarb that will need Y amount of HCl to 'counter' it, then you're asking your body to produce X+Y, i.e. more than normal; whether you're hypochlorhydric or not, this would be a silly move.
