A quick post to say hello

Postby Sentient Primate on Tue Aug 12, 2008 8:47 pm

Hello to all,

:)

Firstly, many thanks to all concerned for making this forum available. I appreciate it very much. I've read through quite a few of your posts, and hope to make equal contribution. That will be difficult, given the knowledge and wisdom you all show.

To tell you a little bit about myself, I'm 54 tears of age, around 6 feet tall, 166lbs, and thin as a broom stick. I've been quite seriously ill for the last 2 years or so, and have lost a lot of muscular bodyweight and strength. I'm recovering nicely now, and will be able to resume training very soon. My goal is to rebuild my physique and strength, then go on from there.

I like high intensity, for both skeletal muscle and cardio/vascular/pulmonary training. I'm looking forward to it eagerly. :)

I'll sign off now, before this post takes on the proportions of a novel.

Highest regards,

Steve H

Hi Steve

I'm sorry to hear you've been ill. I'm sure that you'll get back on track and muscle memory really does work - I've been there.

Best of luck and welcome.

Welcome aboard the boards!

If this is a return to training then I assume you've had to watch some hard work go down the pan while you were ill. Bummer! Best wishes for a triumphant return :D

Welcome aboard, at last I'm no longer the old git of the boards!

How about letting us hear a little about your training history etc :)

Thank you. :D

Yes, it is a return to training. I was quite strong and muscular at one point. Not huge, by any stretch of the imagination, but I had a respectable physique. I'll get it back. As Simon M pointed out, muscle memory is a real phenomenon.

It is true, I'm getting on a bit. But it is partly a state of mind, as young GymBunny pointed out.

My training history? There isn't much to tell. I started training at my local YMCA at the age of 18 years, when I returned to the UK from abroad. From that point on, I trained sporadically up to the time of my illness...one year here, six months there, and so on. I've always worked long hours, night work, shift work, and find this makes things rather awkward as far as training is concerned. This also plays havoc with diet and sleep...two very important aspects in the training equation, as you well know.

Be safe and well. :)

Highest regards,

Steve H

Coool - I'm good company ;)

Steve, eat-eat-eat!!! I'm finding at the moment that with mytraining, strength is coming on in leaps and bounds but am really struggling to gain any mass- even fat. Seems that rather than build more muscle, if I eat more my body decides to poo more...

As you know sleep is key, can be hard woking nights so I advise some kind of trib supplemement, not sure if BSD ae bringing one in, but you can get some stuff that really woks from http://www.spots-nutrition.net. Mine arrived yesterday after a monh off and I already feel better today after a decent sleep as well.

Yes Ollie, shift work, night work and long hours is the common trend in commerce and industry. This trend is set to continue. The key here is not allowing this to become an issue. :)
