20 Rep ATG Squats

Postby Alex on Mon Mar 31, 2008 10:28 am

I was pondering this a while ago after reading a few Dave Draper articles but didn't get around to trying this out but I'm now really considering this.

Plan will be to warm up and then do a couple of sets of 5's up to a to a reasonable weight. Then drop back down to hit a working set of 20 where I'll probably have to use rest pause but without racking and unracking.

The aim is to try and increase this set each week by 2.5kg-5kg.

Good Idea Batman

20 reps for you after a couple of 5's will be about 120k maybe?

Great idea, I did a 2 minute squat the other day and it was pretty immense!

Once you get to around 1 minute the lactic acid build up is crazy.
This is ten percent luck, twenty percent skill, fifteen percent concentrated power of will. Five percent pleasure and fifty percent pain.

120kg was roughly what I had in mind.

I would say at least that for you. The other week there i did 100k x10 for 3 sets, then 100k x20, then 60k x30

20 REP squats hurt like hell bt for a change can really get the quads growing. Im sure KP has done a "widow maker" or 10 as he does DC. One point near the end of the 20 form can be an issue so might be worth doing them on a smiths?

Impressive stuff Rab...my ATGs are a hell of a lot weaker than my parallels.

My form stays pretty good up to failure on these so I'll do them free.

I'll start at 120kg today and see where I am.

I won't have a mirror to use so will be more interesting...
